Black Hills Community Outreach

Volunteers of America Northern Rockies offers access to crisis intervention, emergency resources, and case management support for those living in poverty. In addition to the programs below, community outreach operates a food pantry with both cooking and non-cooking menu items available for participants experiencing food insecurity.

The following donations are accepted through our Community Outreach program:

  • Diapers (especially sizes 4-5)
  • Wipes
  • Formula
  • Childcare essentials
  • Books

Homeless Outreach

We work with our referral partners to provide crisis intervention, navigation assistance and comprehensive case management for those who experience co-occurring barriers to stability and often find themselves without a place to call home. Emergency resources are made available and referrals facilitated through partnerships with the Homeless Coalition organizational members.

Mommy’s Closet

Mommy’s Closet is an emergency resource provider for families with children under the age of 13, providing access to diapers, wipes, formula, and food boxes. Case management services are also made available. The Community Outreach entrance is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11am-4pm. We also support 12 additional local pantry partners that dispense diapers and other necessities on our behalf.

Homeless Coalition

The Community Outreach program at Volunteers of America facilitates the Black Hills Regional Homeless Coalition, which is made up of 35+ homeless provider members. We work together with these members to address the problem of homelessness on individual, community, and social levels. The coalition supports the initiatives of the South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium, operated by the South Dakota Housing Development Authority, on a local level.
