Wellness Program

Health insurance issues continue to be a concern for most Americans while companies struggle to provide medical coverage to employees as a result of high medical premiums. Those premiums are directly related to the overall health of employees within the organization. VOA implemented a wellness program to educate and encourage employees to lead healthy life styles. The goal for this program is not only to help insure the future of our organization’s health care coverage, but to also increase individual employee’s health as well as to increase morale and job satisfaction.

The main points of this program include:

    • Education
    • Goal Sheets/Incentives
    • Wellness Days

Education:

Education of employees on various health and wellness topics will be the primary focus.  VOA will help to educate staff through internal newsletters, emails, and classes.  The staff retreat will also feature a wellness component and activity for participants.
Educational bulletin boards will be placed in each program in a conspicuous location, highlighting new wellness posters, photos and healthy tips each month.

Goal Sheets/Incentives:
Staff will be given a monthly goal sheet with an activities log. Employees can write their personal long term and short term goals and 10 physical activities they participated in that month. Goal sheets are returned to Donna Rogers on the 3rd of every month or once 10 activities are completed. Those who submit completed monthly goal sheets will be entered into a drawing for prizes at the end of each quarter. Quarters are January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December. To be entered in to the quarterly prize drawing, employees must have submitted completed goal sheets every month throughout the quarter.
Employees who choose to participate may be recognized in front of others at wellness luncheons and have names published in monthly newsletters. Stickers will also be given to participants monthly to be placed on VOA name badge covers as a visual symbol of participation and hard work in the program.

Wellness Days
Facilities should hold a quarterly Wellness Day. Typically the wellness coach at each facility would arrange the Wellness Day activity but all employees have the opportunity to do so. Wellness Day activities could include healthy pot lucks or group physical activity such as a bike ride. The activity would be open to all employees within the facility but employees working another shift or who are unable to attend would not be penalized.
